Welcome to an exciting opportunity to be part of our fabulous community school for the 2021 – 2022 school year! I am honoured to be the principal of this wonderful community for the 6th year. Last school year we all faced unprecedented times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I am sure you join me in hoping this year is much simpler, safer, and open once again to our parents and community members who provide the outstanding volunteerism that we so enjoy and which helps our learners thrive!
Sorrento Elementary prides itself in meeting the needs of all learners. We place a great focus on acceptance and tolerance of differences and inclusion. We provide individualized attention where and when it is needed, because we believe, “not everybody gets the same, but everybody gets what they need.” We are a community school with an open door policy. We appreciate and benefit from input from our students, our parents and our community partners. I believe that we are all interconnected and we all contribute to the making of a better school and a better world.
Our school population is currently 234 students in grades kindergarten to grade 5. We offer programs for students requiring speech language support, counselling support, or OT/PT support on an as-needed basis. Our students also enjoy the activities that a rich school environment provides: opportunities for cross country running and skiing, snowshoeing, swim lessons, team sports like basketball, track and field, student leadership endeavors, and much more.
I look forward to working with you this school year and to the memorable times ahead! Kukwtsétsemc! (Thank you, in the local Shuswap language – Secwepemctsin)
