Principal’s Message

Welcome to the 2020 – 2021 school year! I am thrilled to be the principal of this wonderful community for the 5th year. This year will certainly be one to remember, as we all face the unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, our school team has been working hard to make our school ready so that everyone feels safe, and enjoys healthy and happy days at Sorrento Elementary.
Sorrento Elementary prides itself in meeting the needs of all learners.  We place a great focus on acceptance and tolerance of differences and inclusion. We provide individualized attention where and when it is needed, because we believe, “not everybody gets the same, but everybody gets what they need.” We are a community school with an open door policy (although with safety protocols this year, we require parents to make an appointment in advance of arrival).  We appreciate and benefit from input from our students, our parents and our community partners. I believe that we are all interconnected and we all contribute to the making of a better school and a better world.
Our school population is currently 213 students in grades kindergarten to grade 5. We offer programs for students requiring speech language support, counselling support, or OT/PT support on an as-needed basis. We also host a StrongStart drop-in program, free for children aged 0 – 4 and their parent or caregiver on Tuesday mornings. Please call our school for more details. There will be a delayed start for StrongStart this year due to the pandemic, but stay tuned!
I look forward to working with you this school year and to the memorable times ahead! Kukwtsétsemc! (Thank you, in the local Shuswap language – Secwepemctsin)
